MMA

Methyl methacrylate

MMA is a colorless and transparent liquid that has excellent transparency and weather resistance, and is used as a raw material for a number of chemical products including paint, adhesives, and fiber paste, starting from acrylic resin, which is gaining attention as an eco-friendly material.

01MMA Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process of LX MMA involves an isobutylene gaseous oxidation method (C4 via a methacrylic acid process) that was developed and industrialized by Sumitomo Chemical using Japanese catalysts. The isobutylene gaseous oxidation method is a state-of-the-art manufacturing method that creates high-quality MMA and does not produce pollutants, unlike the previous manufacturing methods. Isobutylene extracted from the C4 residual oil is oxidized in the gaseous state to make methacrylic acid (MAA) and is then esterified with methanol to make MMA.

04Handling Methods and
Precautions

  • When Handling

Wear proper protective device when handling the materials.

Use in a well ventilated place.

Use explosion-proof equipment and prevent static electricity from occurring.

Install a local exhaust system in the handling area.

  • Storage Instructions

Store it separately from strong oxidizers and peroxide.

Avoid direct sunlight and store in a cool and ventilated, non-flammable place.

    Keep the temperature below 35°C.
(If Topanol 5 ppm is added, it can be stored at 35°C for 7.5 months; and is 10 ppm is added it can be stored for 12 months.)

Keep it isolated from other stored materials.

When storing in a sealed container, install a drainage path around the storage area and block the final exit of the drain, to reduce the leakage range of the chemicals in case of leaking.

Take care to protect the container against any leakage, rust, or damage.
